For a limited time, SCE&G is offering customers a $100 rebate for recycling of secondary refrigerators and freezers, an increase from the company’s standard appliance recycling rebate of $50. The offer is available to SCE&G residential electric customers who schedule pickups by Oct. 6.

To participate, customers must have a full-size refrigerator or freezer, between 10 to 30 cubic feet, in working condition and cooling properly. The offer is available for up to two appliances, and customers may call or go online to schedule an appointment to have their appliance picked up.

“We want as many customers as possible to be able to experience the benefits of this program,” said Gerald Freeman, manager of SCE&G’s Appliance Recycling Program. “Scheduling a pickup is free and easy. This program helps customers reduce their energy usage and free up space in their homes, and customers can also feel good knowing their old appliances will be recycled in an environmentally friendly manner.”

Participating customers may reduce their energy usage by as much as 1,140 kilowatt hours per year, representing an annual energy bill savings of approximately $150.

Customers who make appointments after Oct. 6 will be eligible for the program’s standard $50 rebate.
