Greenville Technical College Celebrates the Legacy of Dr. King with MLK Day of Service

Friday, January 12th, 2018

On Monday, January 15, 200 volunteers are expected to gather for a day that represents Dr. King’s vision for unity and selfless service with Greenville Technical College’s sixth annual MLK Day of Service. The event will be held at McAlister Square Center Court, 225 South Pleasantburg Drive in Greenville.

In partnership with The Outreach Program and with support from a TD Bank gift, the volunteers will package 50,000 pasta meals.

Outreach, Inc. is a non-profit organization built through social entrepreneurship and the hard work of two Iowans, delivering food, water purification technology, medical care, and education to rural Tanzania. Outreach meals are provided to the hungry both internationally and in the United States. In ten years, Outreach has provided ingredients to package over 260 million meals. The meals are a nutritious blend of rice, soy protein, beans, veggies, and a vitamin blend designed for Outreach by Iowa State University’s Food Science Department. Ten volunteers surround two tables made into a simple assembly line. Each line of volunteers can package over 1,800 meals per hour.
